Diego Salazar is pleased to be presenting a large collection of paintings left behind by the late Arthur Hammer (1932-2012). The exhibition is being curated by Elinore Schnurr.
Arthur Hammer began to paint in the early 1960s, having fallen in love with the paintings of Marsden Hartley, Albert P. Ryder and the German expressionists in particular, and began to spend a lot of time in galleries and museums.
He had many solo exhibits: at the Woodstock Museum, the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York, the Jeffrey Leder Gallery and the Art-O-Mat in Long Island City, to name a few. In 2008, he received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
